Valere Gaspard

Valere Gaspard is a political scientist and electoral practitioner whose work connects academic research with how elections are actually run. He holds a PhD in Political Studies from the University of Ottawa. He has several years of experience in electoral management roles and is currently a Strategic Advisor and Researcher in the Alternative Voting Methods directorate at Elections Canada.

Valere is a Research Fellow with the Leadership and Democracy Lab (Western University and Trent University) and an alumnus of Canada’s Parliamentary Internship Programme (PIP-PSP). He strives to inform his research with both practical and theoretical considerations.

Academic Publications – His research looks at satisfaction with democracy, the voting age, electoral processes and management bodies, politicians, and Canadian politics. He uses both quantitative and qualitative methods. He designs and runs public opinion surveys, conducts survey experiments, analyzes political discourse, and interviews elite actors such as elected officials. His work has appeared in a range of academic publications.

Consulting and collaboration – National and international organizations have hired Valere as an expert consultant. He is open to consulting work, research partnerships, and academic opportunities, including teaching, speaking, and collaborative projects.

Media and commentary – Valere has been interviewed by media about his research for broadcast, print, and online news, including CBC’s The National, La Presse, CityNews, and CBC Kids News. He has written for policy outlets and newspapers such as The Conversation, Policy Options (IRPP), Policy Magazine, The Hill Times, and the LSE United States Blog.
